Virginia Walker Riley Virginia Walker Riley was part of a small group of African Americans received for membership in 1960. She came as a result of enrolling her children in the school. Virginia was the first African-American congregation member to be active at Cross Lutheran. At the time there were a couple dozen African-American families on the congregation roster, but most were not active. Her participation in the church is a tradition and value passed on to her son, John, who remains active today.
